Barn Door Resources
What materials are used for your exterior doors?
Our exterior barn doors are made from 1/8” aluminum tubing, including an extruded aluminum T&G insert. Each component is primed and powder-coated for added protection, seams are welded and sanded smooth, and the panels are assembled with stainless steel fasteners, ensuring durability against the elements.
Can I get custom colors for powder coating?
Yes, we can match almost any color you request. We offer a wide range of standard colors. But if you have a custom color in mind, we can accommodate that for an additional fee. This option is best suited for larger orders due to the associated costs.
Can you create a custom design for my doors?
We specialize in building custom doors. While our standard aluminum profiles have some limitations, we are more than happy to work with you to explore custom designs. If you can envision it, we’ll do our best to bring it to life.
Exterior Sliding Doors
Is it difficult to install an aluminum sliding door?
Installation is straightforward as long as the framing is level, and the opening is properly sized. We recommend having the opening prepared before installation, but we also offer guidance through video calls, photos, or phone consultations to ensure everything is done correctly.
Are aluminum barn doors weather-resistant?
Yes, aluminum barn doors are highly resistant to weather. The heavy-duty aluminum construction combined with a premium powder-coated finish makes them both durable and long-lasting, even in harsh outdoor conditions.
How do I maintain these doors?
Maintenance is simple. These doors can be cleaned with warm water and soap or pressure washed as needed. Regular cleaning helps maintain their appearance and ensures longevity.
What are the advantages of aluminum barn doors over traditional wood doors?
Aluminum doors are much more resistant to warping and sagging than wood doors. The powder coating also provides long-term color retention, meaning less fading over time. Additionally, aluminum doors are lightweight, making them easier to open and close.
Barn Loft Doors
What is the purpose of a loft door?
Loft doors provide both aesthetic and functional benefits. They are typically used to allow airflow or access for hay bales. We offer hinged or sliding options to suit different styles and practical needs.
What materials are used for sliding loft doors?
Our sliding loft doors are made with heavy-wall aluminum tubing and are fitted with high-quality galvanized or stainless-steel hardware for maximum durability.
What materials are used for hinged loft doors?
Hinged loft doors are also built from heavy-wall aluminum tubing. We use welded-on hinges and secure latches to ensure ease of use and safety.
Can I install a barn loft door myself?
Yes, installing a loft door is relatively simple in terms of complexity. However, due to the height of most loft doors, we recommend having at least two to three people assist in the process, along with proper equipment, like scaffolding or a sturdy ladder.
How safe are your barn loft doors?
For areas prone to high winds, we recommend sliding loft doors, as they are easier to control during opening and closing. Hinged doors are best suited for locations where the primary function is loading hay, but they should be kept closed during high winds for safety.
Do you offer safety gates for loft doors?
Yes, we offer simple steel brackets for horizontal 2×4 wood rails, or custom-manufactured hinged gates that come with weld-on hinges and childproof latches for extra security when the loft door is open.
What are the benefits of tempered glass in loft doors?
Tempered glass offers enhanced safety and allows natural light into your barn. If broken, (this very rarely happens), tempered glass shatters into small, non-sharp pieces, reducing the risk of injury.
Carriage Doors
What is a “carriage door”?
Carriage doors are hinged doors that split vertically down the center. Historically, they were used for storing horse-drawn carriages. Today, they add a classic, rustic charm to barns and other structures.
What are the advantages of choosing carriage doors over sliding doors?
Carriage doors have a timeless aesthetic and work well in spaces where there isn’t enough room for sliding door tracks. They also offer the benefit of a locking latch that can be accessed from both the inside and outside.
What are the disadvantages of carriage doors compared to sliding doors?
Carriage doors may require more maintenance, such as greasing the hinges regularly, and they are more prone to being affected by wind. Sliding doors, by contrast, are easier to operate, require less maintenance, and don’t take up space when opened.
How do I determine the right size carriage door for my opening?
We recommend ordering carriage doors that are 1/2 inch smaller in both width and height than your rough opening to ensure a proper fit.
Can I install carriage doors myself?
Yes, if you have basic carpentry skills and a few extra hands to help, you can install carriage doors without professional assistance. The size and location of the doors will determine the difficulty of the installation, but most projects can be handled with standard tools.
Dutch Doors
How do I choose the right size for my barn doors?
Our standard Dutch doors are designed to fit 4’x7’ or 4’x8’ openings, but we can manufacture custom sizes if needed. As with carriage doors, we recommend ordering doors that are 1/2 inch smaller than the rough opening to ensure a good fit.
What are the benefits of using Dutch doors in a horse barn?
Dutch doors are great for providing ventilation and natural light while maintaining the safety and security of your horses. They also enhance the overall look of your barn, adding both practicality and aesthetic value.
Are aluminum Dutch doors durable enough for horses?
Yes, our Dutch doors are made from 1/8” thick aluminum tubing with fully welded seams for added strength. While they are extremely durable, we recommend adding a mesh screen door on the interior to protect the doors from wear and tear over time.
Are window grills necessary for Dutch doors?
While not essential, window grills can provide added protection for your livestock. All of our windows come with tempered glass, which breaks into small, harmless pieces if shattered. If budget or preference means skipping grills at first, you can always install them later with just a few screws.
How long does it take to make and ship Dutch doors?
Our in-stock Dutch doors (4’x7′ and 4’x8′) can be ready to ship within 3-4 weeks after your order is confirmed. Custom sizes may have a longer lead time, depending on the complexity of the design.
Entry Doors
Do you offer pre-hung barn entry doors?
Yes, we offer custom pre-hung entry doors in any size or style. These doors are designed to complement the overall look of your barn, matching other elements (like sliding doors or Dutch doors) for a cohesive appearance. Say goodbye to standard fiberglass entry doors and hello to something that truly enhances your building’s aesthetic.
What types of locking mechanisms are available?
We use high-quality commercial-grade lever latches for our entry doors. However, if you have specific requirements or want to provide your own lock or deadbolt, we can accommodate that. Custom latch options are also available, so feel free to discuss any unique ideas you may have with our team.
What are the components of a pre-hung entry door?
Our pre-hung entry doors are constructed with heavy-wall aluminum tubing and come with high-grade stainless steel or aluminum hardware. The components include:
- 1.5” x 3.5” tube frame
- Weld-on hinges with grease zerks
- Commercial-grade lever latch
- Aluminum threshold and door sweep
We also offer options for 1/4” tempered glass (single or double pane) and fully insulated doors, depending on your specific needs.
Stall Resources
What safety features are included in your standard stalls?
Safety is our top priority when it comes to horse stalls. Our standard features include:
- 3” or 3.5” on-center bars in the upper portion of the stall fronts for optimal airflow without compromising safety
- 2.5” on-center bars when used on the lower section of stall doors for extra security
- High-quality, secure latches designed to keep your horses safely inside their stalls
What size should horse stalls be?
Stall sizes vary depending on the type of horse:
- 10’x10’ or 10’x12’ for ponies or smaller horses
- 12’x12’ for average-sized horses (14-16 hands)
These sizes provide enough space for comfort and movement while still maintaining efficiency in barn design.
Sliding Stall Fronts
What are the benefits of sliding stall fronts over swing doors?
Sliding stall doors save space in barn aisles, as they don’t require the extra room to swing open. This is particularly useful in barns with narrow aisleways. Additionally, sliding doors are often easier to operate when leading a horse into or out of a stall, reducing the risk of the door hitting the horse or handler.
What maintenance is required for sliding stall fronts?
Sliding stall fronts are low-maintenance. Routine cleaning with warm water and soap or pressure washing is sufficient to keep them in good condition.
Do I Need to Purchase a Grill Section beside the Stall Door?
No, the grill is sold separately. It is a very common combination as it allows lots of airflow, and you can easily see into the stall from the aisleway (also allowing the horse to see what’s going on).
What’s the difference between a full panel stall front and a door and grill combo?
A full panel stall front is a complete, single-piece unit that includes the door, panel, and framework. It can be installed as a single piece into your opening, making it an easier and quicker installation option. A door and grill combo, on the other hand, requires the wood posts to be set and lumber to be installed before the door and grill are mounted. This option is often more economical and can save on shipping costs.
Stall Partitions
Is it better to have solid wood or half-grill partitions?
It depends on your preferences and your horse’s behavior. Solid partitions offer more privacy and help reduce interaction between horses in adjacent stalls. This can be beneficial for more excitable or anxious animals. Half-grill partitions, on the other hand, allow for better airflow and let horses see one another. This can be useful for more social animals and barns that prioritize ventilation.
How are partitions installed?
We offer different types of partitions:
- Economy Solid Partitions: These come with two 8’ vertical channels to attach to the front post and rear wall. Horizontal lumber is then inserted into these channels, and two partition flats are added for reinforcement. All necessary hardware is included.
- Economy Partitions with Bars: These are similar to solid partitions but with bars added on the top portion for ventilation. The grill is installed over the lumber, providing a mix of solid and open space.
- Full Panel Partitions: These are complete steel frame units that can include solid lumber inserts, half grills, or a combination. Full panel partitions are ideal for situations where precise fit and durability are important. Installation involves attaching the full panel to the rear wall and front post using an F-channel.
How do I maintain stall partitions?
Maintenance is straightforward. Regular cleaning with warm water and soap or pressure washing will keep your partitions looking great. Ensuring the hardware is regularly checked and tightened will also help maintain the structure’s integrity over time.
Custom Stalls
What materials are used for custom horse stalls?
Our custom stall fronts are crafted from 14-gauge steel tubing, with all seams fully welded and sanded smooth to ensure durability and a refined finish. These materials are designed to withstand daily wear and tear, ensuring the safety of your horses and the longevity of your stalls.
How do I start the design process for custom stalls?
The design process begins with you sharing your vision — whether through photos, sketches, or even a simple conversation. Once we understand your needs and preferences, we’ll work with you to finalize a design that matches your expectations. Contact us today to get started!
How long does it take to build custom stalls?
The timeline for custom stalls varies depending on the design’s complexity. Custom tubing, hardware, or finishes may extend the lead time. Reach out to us directly for more detailed estimates based on current workloads and availability.
Can you match existing stall designs?
Yes, we can match most existing stall designs. When matching, the challenge often lies in recreating smaller, intricate details, but we aim to replicate your desired look as closely as possible using our standard materials and hardware. Our team will guide you through the process to ensure you’re happy with the final result.
European Stalls
Are aluminum stall fronts as strong as steel?
Yes, our aluminum stall fronts are comparable to steel in strength. While our steel fronts are made from 14-gauge tubing (0.074” thick), the aluminum tubing used for our European fronts is 1/8” thick, providing nearly double the thickness for added strength without the risk of rusting.
How are European stall fronts packaged for shipment?
European stall fronts are shipped flat on a wooden pallet. For example, a 12’ Euro front will be packed on a skid measuring approximately 55” wide by 92” long and 15” tall, weighing around 300 lbs.
Do European stall fronts need a concrete curb?
Yes, European stall fronts require a concrete curb for proper installation. The posts on either side of the doorway have a 7” round base, which is anchored to the concrete curb. We recommend a minimum curb width of 16” for secure installation.
Do European stall fronts offer good ventilation?
Yes, the low-profile design of European stall fronts allows for excellent airflow. We also offer the option of mesh or round bars in the doorway, further enhancing ventilation while maintaining safety.
Screen Stalls
Can mesh stall fronts be customized to fit different stall sizes?
Yes, just like our other stall options, mesh fronts can be customized to fit any size stall. For best pricing and shipping efficiency, it’s more economical to keep stall sizes consistent, but we can accommodate a variety of dimensions based on your needs.
Do mesh stall fronts require special maintenance?
While not strictly necessary, we recommend periodic cleaning to prevent dust and debris buildup, which can accumulate on the mesh over time. A simple pressure wash or cleaning with soap and water will help preserve the mesh and prevent corrosion.
What locking mechanisms are available for mesh stall fronts?
We offer a variety of latch options for our mesh fronts, including J&E button latches, slide latches, pin latches, and more. These latches are designed to secure your horses safely inside the stalls while providing easy access for handlers.
Will the 2×2 mesh break if a horse kicks it?
Our mesh is made from 1/4” thick rods that are spot-welded together, forming a 2”x2” grid. Under normal use, the mesh is very durable, but excessive kicking can bend or separate the rods over time. This typically only happens in cases where the mesh is repeatedly abused.
Window Resources
How do I maintain barn windows?
Maintaining your barn windows is straightforward. Periodic cleaning with warm water and soap, or using a pressure washer, will keep them looking good and ensure maximum light comes through. Keeping them clean also helps preserve the powder-coated finish on the aluminum frames, preventing long-term damage from dirt and debris.
How do I choose the right size windows for my barn?
Choosing the right size window often depends on the scale of your barn walls. For example, a 3’x3’ window may be more proportionate on an 8’ wall, while a larger 4’x4’ window might look better on a taller structure. If your barn already has windows, consider matching their size for a consistent look. You can also coordinate the size of your windows with the top half of your Dutch doors for a cohesive design.
Arena Windows
Can arena windows be installed on existing buildings?
Yes, arena windows can be added to existing structures. Depending on the building’s framing, it may take more effort, but if you have a standard post-frame building, installation is relatively simple. Contact us, and we’ll help guide you through any framing challenges.
Can arena windows be installed on steel structures, or are they just for wood post frames?
Our arena windows can be installed on both steel and wood structures. Installing them on steel buildings may require additional framing materials and labor, but it’s entirely possible. We’re happy to provide advice on how to approach this based on your specific structure.
Do these windows require regular maintenance?
Once installed and adjusted correctly, arena windows require minimal maintenance. A yearly cleaning with a pressure washer will help prevent dust buildup, particularly from arena dust, and will keep the powder coat intact, preventing corrosion over time.
What are the benefits of adding windows to an indoor riding arena?
Adding windows to your indoor arena brings in natural light, creates better ventilation, and makes the space feel more open and pleasant. Large windows also provide views to the outside, offering a connection to the outdoors even in a fully enclosed space. This can be especially valuable in colder months.
What kind of latches are included on these windows?
Our sliding arena windows come equipped with a jamb latch, similar to the latches used on barn aisle way sliding doors, ensuring they stay securely closed when needed.
Awning Windows
How do awning windows protect against the weather?
Awning windows are designed to open outward from the bottom, allowing air to flow in while still providing protection from rain or snow. This makes them ideal for spaces, like tack or feed rooms, where you want ventilation without exposing the interior to the elements.
Can awning windows withstand strong winds?
Yes, awning windows are held securely open by two gas cylinders, and the heavy-duty welded hinges ensure they stay firmly in place, even during strong winds. When closed, the windows are solidly latched for security.
Can awning windows be locked for security?
Yes, the latches for awning windows are located on the inside, making them fully secure when closed. Once latched, these windows cannot be opened from the outside.
Can awning windows match the aesthetics of my Dutch windows?
Absolutely! Awning windows are made from the same high-quality aluminum and powder-coated finishes as our Dutch windows, so they can seamlessly match in both color and design. The only difference is that awning windows are hinged at the top, while Dutch windows are hinged on the sides.
Dutch Windows
How easy are Dutch windows to install?
Dutch windows are designed for ease of installation. They come pre-hung in a rigid frame, meaning there’s minimal adjustment needed. Simply place the window into your opening, fasten it into the jamb using the provided screws, and you’re all set. The latch is pre-installed, and the only extra hardware you’ll need to install is the suction holder to keep the window open.
Can these windows be used in existing barns?
Yes, Dutch windows can be added to existing barns as long as you have a proper opening. We offer standard rough opening sizes of 3’x3’, 4’x37”, and 4’x4’, as well as custom options, so they’ll fit in any application.
Are the windows weather-resistant?
Yes, Dutch windows are built from heavy-wall aluminum tubing and powder-coated with a durable matte finish, providing excellent resistance to fading and weathering.
Are window grills on Dutch windows essential?
While not essential, window grills can provide added protection for your livestock. All of our windows come with tempered glass, which breaks into small, harmless pieces if shattered. If budget or preference means skipping grills at first, you can always install them later with just a few screws.

Can HoofGrids be used in horse stalls?
Yes, many clients use HoofGrids in stalls to provide stable, comfortable flooring for their horses. They’re especially useful in stalls where drainage is a concern, as they prevent water from pooling and create a solid surface for horses to stand on.
T&G Lumber
What makes Yellow Pine Tongue and Groove ideal for horse barns?
Southern yellow pine (SYP) is a durable and cost-effective choice for horse barns. It’s resistant to wear and tear, making it a popular option for stall walls and partitions. SYP is also strong enough to withstand the rigors of a barn environment while maintaining its structural integrity.
Does this wood require special maintenance in a horse barn?
Yellow pine tongue and groove doesn’t require much maintenance. It can be left natural or sealed with polyurethane for added protection. For areas with ground or manure contact, we recommend using treated southern yellow pine to prevent rot.
What finishes are available for Yellow Pine Tongue and Groove lumber?
Our yellow pine tongue and groove lumber comes in eight standard stains. However, you can also choose a custom stain or finish to match your barn’s aesthetics. Applying a stain and polyurethane can help enhance the wood’s durability and appearance.
How is Tongue and Groove lumber installed?
Installation involves starting at the bottom of the wall and working your way up. Each board is either nailed through the face or secured with hidden fasteners by nailing or screwing at an angle through the tongue. This method creates a smooth, clean finish while ensuring the boards are securely fastened.
