Stall Configurations
- Hinged stall divider: Typically made of a 2”x2” 14-gauge steel frame, this has a large hinge that is fastened to the wall, allowing the whole panel to swing open, like a giant door.
- Stationary stall divider: This fixed, non-moveable partition has a 2”x2” 14-gauge steel frame that’s mounted between the post/wall, using an easy-to-install f-channel.
- DIY divider panel kit: This requires more effort but is the most-economical option. A sturdy partition wall can be built using J&E heavy-gauge steel channels available in 4′ and 8′ lengths, stiffener flats, and 2’x8’ T&G lumber that’s 1.5” thick.
The Styles of Divider Panels that We Sell
- Economy solid partitions: Each of the above configurations can be made of solid lumber, preventing the horses from seeing each other, which is good for horses that need privacy or get agitated by neighbors.
- Economy partitions with bars: Available in all three configurations, this option is similar to solid partitions, but bars are added on the top portion for improved ventilation and interaction between the horses. The manufactured steel grill on top can be 1″ round bar, 0.75″ square bar, or 2”x2” mesh (0.25″ round). The lower 4’ is constructed using wall channels and stiffener flats to support T&G lumber, creating a sturdy and uniform appearance.
- Full panel partitions: Available in hinged and stationary divider panels, this premium option is a complete steel frame unit that can include solid lumber inserts, half grills, or a combination. Full panel partitions are ideal for situations where precise fit, durability, free air flow, and a higher level of socializing are important.
Choosing the Right Style for Your Barn
Do You want the Panels to Swing Open or Stay Fixed?
Hinged dividers allow for flexible space as well as future reconfiguration. If you need simple, permanent walls, stationary dividers will work well for you.
Solid Wood Versus Half-Grill Partitions
This choice depends on your preferences and your horse’s behavior. Solid panels offer more privacy and help reduce interaction between horses in adjacent stalls. This can be beneficial for more excitable or anxious animals. Half-grill dividers, on the other hand, allow for better airflow and let horses see one another. This can be useful for more social animals and barns that prioritize ventilation.

Frequently Asked Questions
How are Partitions Installed?
Our three styles of dividers are installed in different ways:
- Economy solid partitions: These come with two 8’ vertical channels to attach to the front post and rear wall. Horizontal lumber is then inserted into these channels, and two partition flats are added for reinforcement. All necessary hardware is included.
- Economy partitions with bars: The grill is installed over approximately the bottom 4 feet, which is constructed using wall channels and stiffener flats. This provides a mix of solid and open space.
- Full panel partitions: Each partition arrives as a solid, prefabricated panel, eliminating on-site assembly and reducing labor time. Installation involves attaching the full panel to the rear wall and front post using an F-channel. These long-lasting partitions can be hinged or stationary, depending on your needs.
How do I Maintain Stall Panels?
Maintenance is straightforward. Regular cleaning with warm water and soap or pressure washing will keep your panels looking great. Ensuring the hardware is regularly checked and tightened will also help maintain the structure’s integrity over time.
