Metal Horse Stall Fronts
-
Top-Quality Materials
J&E Manufacturing screen stall fronts and gates are made of 14-gauge steel with mesh inserts.
-
Optimal Height for Horses
The most common height for our stall fronts is 90”. While 96” is also a very common size, we can customize to your specific needs.
-
Safety Improvements
A mesh gate can keep your horse safely in its stall, prevent it from getting injured, and even help calm an anxious equine. Screen stalls also give you the opportunity to regulate your horse’s airflow.
-
Easy Installations
J&E mesh horse stalls are designed with ease of installation in mind. A two-person crew can install one stall front in about 1 hour.
Customizable Mesh Panel Styles and Configurations
Style
We offer several different styles and configurations, including combinations of mesh, bars, or lumber inserts. We can also add metal kick-plates to the bottom of screen stalls, helping protect the mesh from being kicked and damaged, or as a shaving guard, keeping the bedding in the stall where it belongs!
Stall Size
Just like our other horse stall options, mesh fronts can be customized to fit any size stall. For the best pricing and shipping efficiency, it’s more economical to keep stall sizes consistent, but we can accommodate a variety of dimensions, based on your needs.
Mesh Size
In addition to our standard 2”x2” mesh, custom sizes are also available.
Versatility
These mesh panels can be customized in the form of screen doors or window grills and hung in front of exterior stall doors, Dutch doors, and barn windows to allow airflow while keeping horses safely contained.
Standard Screen Stalls
Our standard metal stall fronts offer a practical and durable solution for enhancing airflow and visibility in your barn while keeping horses safely contained.

Improved Visibility with Horse Stall Gates
One of the key benefits of metal horse stall fronts is that they allow horses to see each other, which can have a significant positive impact on their well-being. Horses are naturally social, herd animals that feel safer and more relaxed when they can maintain visual contact with other horses.
Mesh stall gates help reduce feelings of isolation and stress, especially in more confined environments, like boarding barns or show facilities. When horses can see their neighbors, they’re less likely to develop anxious behaviors, such as pacing, weaving, or stall kicking.
Additionally, these stall fronts allow barn staff and owners to monitor horses more easily. Being able to observe a horse’s behavior, posture, and general demeanor without entering the stall helps with daily checks and early detection of potential health issues.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Mesh Stall Fronts be Customized to Fit different Stall Sizes?
Yes, just like our other horse stall options, mesh fronts can be customized to fit any size stall. For best pricing and shipping efficiency, it’s more economical to keep stall sizes consistent, but we can accommodate a variety of dimensions based on your needs.
Do Metal Stall Gates Require Special Maintenance?
While not strictly necessary, we recommend periodic cleaning to prevent dust and debris buildup, which can accumulate on the mesh over time. A simple pressure wash or cleaning with soap and water will help preserve the metal and prevent corrosion.
What Locking Mechanisms are Available for Metal Stall Fronts?
We offer a variety of latch options for our mesh fronts, including J&E button latches, slide latches, pin latches, and more. These latches are designed to secure your horses safely inside the stalls while providing easy access for handlers.
Will the 2×2 Mesh Break if a Horse Kicks It?
Our mesh is made from 1/4” thick rods that are spot-welded together, forming a 2”x2” grid. Under normal use, the mesh is very durable, but excessive kicking can bend or separate the rods over time. This typically only happens in cases where the mesh is repeatedly abused.
Are Screen Horse Stall Fronts Good for Hot and Humid Climates?
These stall gates are an excellent choice for barns in hot and humid climates because they provide superior airflow and ventilation. The open design allows for consistent air circulation, helping to regulate stall temperatures, reduce humidity, and minimize the buildup of ammonia and unpleasant odors. This creates a healthier, more comfortable environment for horses, particularly during the warmest months of the year.
Additionally, screen stall fronts allow moisture to dry more quickly, helping to reduce mold and bacteria growth that can negatively impact both horse health and barn structure.
